Manchester City’s big spending this year is set to continue with a blockbuster deal for a player who is set to become a mainstay of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Poor form has prompted City to conduct an overhaul of their entire operation, which started during the January transfer window as they signed five new faces to supplement Guardiola’s options.

Now Diogo Costa is set to arrive from Porto, with Sky Sport Switzerland confirming that a deal for the keeper is close.

FootballTransfers reported City’s interest in the Portugal shot-stopper in January. It was then revealed that the keeper had reservations over the move due to family circumstances, but these concerns appear to have been addressed, with super agent Jorge Mendes having stepped in to push through a deal.

Man City sporting director Hugo Viana along with Mendes are seeking a deal that is below Costa’s release fee of €75 million. The Premier League side are hopeful of a transfer for less than €60m, but so far Porto president Andre Vilas-Boas, the former Chelsea manager, has refused.

Now Mendes is set to exert pressure on Porto to accept City’s offer, with the player having already agreed to move to Guardiola’s side in the summer.

Costa has already held meetings with City goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor remotely to discuss his role, while he has been assured that he will be the club’s No.1 next season.

Ederson heading for Saudi

Ederson is set to move on from the Etihad Stadium after eight successful years.

The Brazil international was courted by clubs in the Saudi Pro League last summer and it is expected that he will complete a move to the Middle East in the summer.

Football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano added on this deal: “Ederson was quite close to Saudi Arabia a year ago but the deal didn’t happen. Now Man City have received approaches from several clubs for him.

“There is still no official bid on the table at Man City so the situation remains open. But City anticipate a move from Saudi clubs for Ederson. The expectation is for something to happen.”
