Liverpool are set to offer Darwin Nunez to Atletico Madrid at a significantly reduced rate in an attempt to sign Julian Alvarez this summer.

Nunez, 25, has endured a tough three-year spell at Anfield, following his arrival from Benfica for a whopping €85 million, and he is expected to leave the club ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

However, Arne Slot’s side are now willing to part ways with Nunez for as little as €41.3m (£35m), as per Anfield Watch, although Atletico Madrid are the only club in world football who will be able to sign him at this discounted price.

That is because Liverpool want to lure the aforementioned Alvarez away from the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.

The Argentina striker is viewed as the perfect fit for Slot’s system and his experience in the Premier League is a key factor behind why Liverpool believe he is capable of hitting the ground running at Anfield.

Alvarez is happy at Atletico Madrid, but Anfield Watch have confirmed that Liverpool are the most likely club to tempt him into an exit after just 12 months.

Furthermore, Diego Simeone is a known admirer of Nunez and Liverpool are prepared to sell the Uruguayan for a reduced fee if it allows them to bring Alvarez to the club.

In addition to Alvarez’s desire to return to the Premier League, Liverpool also hold three trump cards in the race to sign him, according to Anfield Watch, in the form of Alexis Mac Allister, Gonzalo Siegrist and Fernando Troiani.

The Atletico Madrid forward has a strong relationship with Siegrist and Troiani, both of whom are South American scouts for Liverpool, while he is good friends with Mac Allister – his international team-mate.

Alvarez has scored 27 goals in 51 appearances so far this season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €104.7m – the ninth highest of any player in La Liga.
