It is by no means a foregone conclusion that Martín Zubimendi will join Real Madrid next summer, reports Relevo .

The defensive midfielder has impressed at Real Sociedad. Xabi Alonso, who is likely to swap Bayer Leverkusen for Real Madrid this summer, is a personal admirer of the ball winner.

The 26-year-old Real Sociedad controller has been on Madrid’s list for months, but with the imminent arrival of Xabi Alonso as head coach, interest has flared up again.

Within the walls of Real Madrid, however, there are doubts whether the selection really needs reinforcements in his position.

With Aurelien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga, the competition already seems fierce. Moreover, Zubimendi’s price tag – a buyout clause of 60 million euros – would raise questions.

Real Sociedad expecting Zubimendi Arsenal transfer

In addition, Arsenal are reportedly much further along in the negotiations. In London, there are rumors that the deal is practically done.

In San Sebastián, where Real Sociedad is already preparing for a summer full of changes, many also think that Zubimendi will continue his career under Mikel Arteta.

“We would not be surprised if he chooses the Premier League. Arsenal offers a stable future,” it sounds in Basque club circles.

Zubimendi has become one of the key players at Real Sociedad in recent years, which secured a very creditable sixth place in LaLiga last season.

This season , Txuri-Urdin is doing less well: the Basque club is in eleventh place. Zubimendi played 44 matches this football season and was good for 2 goals and 2 assists. The contract of the fifteen-time Spanish international runs until mid-2027.
