France 1-1 Poland: Lewandowski’s Penalty Spoils France’s Lead

admin

Poland were able to claw back a single point thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s re-taken penalty but exited the competition rock bottom of Group D after a 1-1 draw with France, who qualified in second place.

Kylian Mbappe broke his Euros duck in his new mask, netting from the spot in the second-half to record his first-ever tournament goal, but was unable to secure the victory needed to finish top of the group on his return to Didier Deschamps’ starting XI.

After Dayot Upamecano felled Karol Swiderski in the box, Lewandowski appeared to fluff his lines, with Mike Maignan easily saving his stuttered effort – only for the France goalkeeper to be judged to have gone too early.

The Barcelona striker was similarly stilted with his second attempt – but buried it this time.

More to follow.
