Jay-Z Could Fund Everton Takeover

American rap icon Jay-Z has reportedly been contacted by John Textor regarding his proposed takeover of Premier League strugglers Everton.

Textor is in talks to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent majority stake in the Goodison Park club.

Fifty-eight-year-old Textor went on record last week to say that he was close to selling his shares in current club Crystal Palace, which he would need to do before buying the Toffees.

Textor could probably just about afford to buy Everton by himself but that is not the plan.

He is understood to be keen to get other wealthy individuals on board to help finance his acquisition of the club and also provide further investment into the project.

According to The Sun, Jay-Z, 54, was one of the numerous potential partners recently contacted by Textor.

Jay-Z – who is married to fellow music superstar Beyonce – is said to be worth around £2billion.

He already has multiple business interests, including Rocawear, Roc Nation and Roc-A-Fella Records.

Jay-Z previously held a minority stake in NBA franchise the Brooklyn Nets but he is also known to be a big football fan.

He attended last season’s UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Jay-Z has previously declared himself as an Arsenal supporter.

Speaking in 2010 during an interview with Arsenal.com, Jay-Z said: ‘When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player.

‘Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team.’

Everton currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after losing their first four games of the current season.
