NFL receiver ruled OUT for Week 4 after practice injury

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has been ruled out of their Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns after suffering an injury on the practice field.

League sources told ESPN that Adams pulled up lame in the closing minutes of Raiders practice on Thursday, grabbing his hamstring.

The team did not try to create an excuse or pretend that Adams could play on Sunday, immediately ruling the receiver out on Friday.

‘Collectively, nobody needs to be Davante Adams,’ Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said Friday. ‘I don’t need another Davante. There’s only one, right? I just need the best version of Jakobi Meyers.

‘We’ll see what happens come Sunday, but we really feel [positive] giving these guys the last 12 hours and now today, tomorrow to get ready for the game.’

Before Adams’ hamstring injury, the Raiders were already in a tumultuous week which began with a starting quarterback change after losing to the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.

Furthermore, Las Vegas also lost Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby to a right ankle sprain, which he suffered in Week 2 against Baltimore and tried to play through last week.

After Pierce said the Raiders were making some ‘business decisions’ before Adams and Crosby’s injury, fans speculated that the receiver would be traded out of Sin City.

‘There were definitely some individuals that made business decisions, and we’ll make business decisions going forward as well,’ Pierce said.

However, according to sources, the Raiders rejected several teams’ inquiries for Adams. The sources added that Las Vegas considered an Adams trade a nonstarter and turned away at least two teams before an offer could be made.

Adams has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown through three games as the Raiders are 1-2. He last sat out a game in 2021 when he played with the Green Bay Packers.
