Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Napoli as they look to win the race for Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Nigeria international is one of the most sought-after players in world football and Liverpool are the latest club to express their interest in his signature amid their pursuit of a new centre forward.

The 26-year-old is the subject of interest from the likes of Chelsea, Galatasaray and Manchester United, while Al-Hilal are set to offer him an annual salary of €50 million in an attempt to secure his signature ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

However, TEAMtalk claim that Liverpool are now in talks over a possible move for Osimhen, and preliminary discussions over a swap deal involving Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa have reportedly taken place.

Liverpool are eager to offload both Nunez and Chiesa this summer, and they could both be included in “complex negotiations” for Osimhen.

The Reds have made contact with Osimhen’s representatives ahead of a potential summer deal and although his wage demands could prove to be a stumbling block, the move is said to be “on.”

Victor Osimhen won’t join Chelsea

Meanwhile, Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has seemingly confirmed that his former club will not sign Osimhen following the arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Osimhen over the past 12 months, but Mikel appears to have revealed that a transfer will not take place.

“We need someone to come in, score goals and finish those chances,” he told DAZN following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over LAFC in their opening fixture of the 2025 Club World Cup.

“Obviously, he [Delap] isn’t the guy the fans wanted. We know who the fans wanted. The fans wanted Victor Osimhen to come to the club but he didn’t. Obviously the club decided to go with Delap.”

Delap, 22, made his Chelsea debut off the bench versus LAFC and he provided the assist for Enzo Fernandez’s close-range finish in the 79th minute.
