Luis Diaz has told Bayern Munich that he wants to join the Bundesliga champions from Liverpool this summer despite talks of a new contract or a move to Barcelona.
Diaz has become a top target for both Bayern and Barca after the pair missed out on Nico Williams, who opted to reject their transfer offers to instead extend his contract with Athletic Club.
Bayern’s ‘pain threshold’ is said to be €60 million plus bonuses, with the club not ‘bothered’ by the potential lack of resale value in the 28-year-old and instead just pursuing the player due to his ability to immediately improve the team.
The report states that Diaz is ‘expected’ to join Bayern but Liverpool have already rebuffed two approaches from Barcelona this summer, with the Catalan side also still interested in a move even though a deal may prove unaffordable.
However, with two years remaining on his contract at Anfield, some reports have claimed that Diaz has demanded Liverpool either offer him a new contract that reflects his importance to the team or allow him to join a new club this summer, suggesting that the saga may continue on throughout the remainder of the transfer window.
Diaz talks stall as Liverpool continue to grieve over Diogo Jota
Liverpool had been reluctant to cash in on Diaz earlier in the summer and the situation will only have become more delicate after the tragic death of Diogo Jota last week.
The Merseyside outfit allowed their players extra time to grieve the loss of their teammate, while Bayern also paused talks over Diaz’s transfer in the wake of the incident.
However, Bayern informed Diaz’s agent that they ‘absolutely’ still wanted the player and they feel a deal can still be completed even in light of Jota’s accident.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are also expected to make an approach to Liverpool over Diaz but, having failed to assure Williams over their ability to finance his registration, Bayern may end up having the edge if the winger is allowed to leave Liverpool this summer.

Things I didn’t get to:
Maybe worth doing something on Noa Lang – seems to be going to Napoli but we could advise him to go to VIlla, Arsenal or Newcastle (see image) – I’d tend towards Villa given they’re over 80 Club Fit and have strong potential development
