Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin was feeling in a positive mood on Tuesday as he shared an injury update with his followers after undergoing surgery.

The 23-year-old will not play again this season due to the ACL injury sustained to his right knee during Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Elfsborg late last month.

However, he told fans that he will do everything he can to ‘come back stronger as soon as possible’.

Alongside a photo of himself flexing both of his biceps while lying in a hospital bed, Dragusin wrote on Instagram: ‘This morning, I successfully got through the surgery, which went perfectly. I am grateful to the entire medical team for their care and professionalism.

‘At the same time, I am thankful for all the messages of encouragement and your continuous support. It’s wonderful to feel this kind of support. I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth recovery and come back stronger as soon as possible’.

Mail Sport understands that Dragusin is determined to be back in action by August, despite doctors telling him to expect to be out for another seven or eight months.

Spurs later released a club statement, which read: ‘Radu Dragusin underwent surgery today (Tuesday 11 February) following his Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury.

‘Radu was forced off in our 3-0 Europa League win over Elfsborg at the end of January after landing awkwardly on his right leg.

‘After scans on his knee, it was then confirmed that the defender had sustained an ACL injury and would undergo surgery.

‘That procedure has now been completed and the centre back will now commence with his recovery before beginning the rehabilitation process.’

Dragusin joined Spurs from Genoa in January 2024 and made nine appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s men last season.

He began the current campaign behind Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero in Tottenham’s defensive pecking order.

But injuries to Van de Ven and Romero saw Dragusin become a first-team regular, featuring in 28 games this season before his ACL setback.

Spurs recently signed Kevin Danso to boost their defensive options, while 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray has often had to fill in at centre back.

Danso and Gray played alongside each other in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Spurs had 11 first-team players unavailable for that match due to injury – Dragusin, Van de ven, Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert.
