The New Orleans Saints are hiring former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley to become their new defensive coordinator.
Staley was the Chargers head coach for three seasons, departing the team mid-season after an embarrassing 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Last year, Staley served as an assistant head coach on the San Francisco 49ers.
Earlier this month, the Saints hired Kellen Moore to be their next head coach after one season as the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, leading them to a Super Bowl title.
The championship victory over the Kansas City Chiefs took place in New Orleans, setting the tone for a new era in the Big Easy.
During Staley’s final season in Los Angeles, Moore was his offensive coordinator, reuniting the two, but with Staley not calling the shots this time around.

The end of Staley’s tenure in Los Angeles was blasted for his apparent nonchalance to his team. He could have seen the writing on the wall after that Raiders defeat.
Prior to his time with the Chargers, Staley was on the defensive staffs of the Bears, Rams, and Broncos.
Before coming to the NFL, Staley coached for more than a decade in college football, most notably as James Madison’s defensive coordinator.
The Saints finished 2024 tied for last place in the NFC South with the Carolina Panthers with a 5-12 record.
