Arsenal and Liverpool told they CAN afford to sign Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak was thought to be priced out of a summer move by the €180 million (£150m) price tag put on his head by Newcastle United, yet Arsenal and Liverpool have both been told they can afford to buy the striker.
With 19 goals in the Premier League this season, plus five assists, Isak is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market – and potentially the most eligible striker on the market.
Real Madrid take advantage of SPECIAL FIFA rule to launch new Trent bid
With Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland not about to depart for rival clubs, the 25-year-old Sweden ace is wanted by England’s biggest sides.
Naturally, Newcastle have been bullish about the prospect of keeping him and FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Isak is willing to sign a new deal – if he is given a release clause. But under pressure from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), it is believed that a monster bid in the region of €180m will be too good for the Magpies to turn down.
And there are two clubs in a position to launch such a bid, according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson.
Latest Arsenal transfer rumours

“Liverpool and Arsenal could afford it from a PSR perspective,” he told Football Insider.
“Neither of them will necessarily have the cash available, but that can be put in by the ownership groups. I think both deals are unlikely, to be honest.
“It would be a very major signing for it to happen. I would think it’d be more than £120m as well. Newcastle are unlikely to want to sell, even if the player would want to go.
“I suspect that, if they get the Champions League qualification, then the chances of a transfer happening fall considerably because they just don’t think anybody’s going to pay £140-150m.”

Alexander Isak transfer fee: Newcastle’s astronomical demand
The type of fee being quoted for Isak comes in at more than twice his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €76.4m, which naturally casts more doubt on a deal being struck.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have typically been shrewd operators in the transfer market in the past, refusing to pay above the odds for any signings they make.
Isak is regarded as the Gunners’ dream signing but more realistically, Benjamin Sesko is their top target, particularly as FootballTransfers understands that Mikel Arteta also wants to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa to add more depth to their attack.
Liverpool’s desire to sign the St James’ Park favourite is liable to be shaped by the future of Salah, who is out of contract at the end of June.
So while Arsenal and Liverpool can afford such a deal, the chances of them being willing to make an agreement on Newcastle’s terms are unlikely.
