Arsenal risk losing new sporting director, Fabrizio Romano responds
There are sensational reports that Arsenal could lose ‘new’ sporting director Andrea Berta to a last-minute hijack from AC Milan, but Fabrizio Romano has rejected the claims.
The Transfers Podcast revealed this week that Andrea Berta had ended talks with AC Milan as he has received an offer to become Arsenal’s new sporting director.
It has since been widely reported elsewhere that Berta has accepted the offer and will become Arsenal’s new sporting director, replacing Edu after the Brazilian departed the club in November.

However, the Corriere della Sera reports that Milan have still not given up hope of convincing Berta to take their sporting director position.
The newspaper claims that a last-minute offer has been prepared and Milan are hoping to steal Berta from the under the noses of Arsenal.
Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani and owner Gerry Cardinale had a crisis meeting in New York this week to address the club’s disastrous season and to plan for the next campaign.
The hiring of a sporting director – a position currently unfilled – is the priority. The other options are former Lazio sporting director Igli Tare and ex-Tottenham and Juventus transfer director Fabio Paratici.
Fabrizio Romano has denied these reports and he claimed on Sunday morning that Berta will sign his Arsenal contract next week and there is nothing to worry about for Gunners fans..
Andrea Berta to Arsenal?
Berta left Atletico Madrid by mutual consent in January, following 11 years in La Liga, and he has been linked with a move to Milan in recent weeks.
However, FootballTransfers in conjunction with The Transfers Podcast was told at the start of this week that Berta ended discussions with the Serie A giants after informing the club that he has an offer from Arsenal.
The Gunners have been searching for a new sporting director since Edu’s resignation in November 2024, and they identified Berta as the top candidate for the role following his immense spell at Atletico Madrid.
The 53-year-old has recently been improving his English language skills in London, with a view to joining a Premier League club.
