Garnacho reaches ‘verbal agreement’ to leave Man Utd

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has reached a “verbal agreement” to rejoin Atletico Madrid this summer, according to a sensational report in Spain.

Garnacho left Atletico Madrid as a 16-year-old to join Man Utd back in 2020, but he has been tipped to secure a big-money move back to the club during the 2025 summer transfer window, amid reports of a pending Man Utd exit.

The Argentina international was close to leaving Old Trafford in January, following significant interest from both Chelsea and Napoli, however he was unable to finalise an agreement to depart the club on a permanent deal.

Despite this, Garnacho is now expected to return to Atletico Madrid this summer, according to Fichajes.

In fact, the Spanish outlet claim that his future is “decided”, with a verbal agreement in place for him to join Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee close to the €50 million mark.

Chelsea have been tipped to rival Atletico Madrid in the race for Garnacho’s signature this summer, amid Mykhailo Mudryk’s provisional suspension for doping, although Napoli have reportedly withdrawn from contention due to the antics of his agent in January.

Despite Chelsea’s interest, Garnacho is set to rejoin Atletico Madrid following the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign, as per Fichajes.

Garnacho is reportedly viewed as an ideal candidate to bolster Atletico Madrid’s attack and Man Utd are open to selling the Argentine this summer due to their current financial woes.

Atletico Madrid spent an initial €75 million on Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez last summer and they are set to secure yet another big-money signing this year as they look to challenge for the Spanish top flight title in 2025-26.

Garnacho has just over three years remaining on his current Man Utd contract, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €66.1m.
