A NSW football club has alleged a young fan spiked the water bottle of a goalkeeper during a match by adding beer to it.
Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is investigating the alleged incident last month, which involved Edgeworth Eagles shot-stopper Ben Conway at Blacksmiths Oval, the home of Belmont-Swansea United Soccer Club.
Both teams play in the semi-professional representative NPL competition north of Sydney in the NSW Hunter region.
It is understood Edgeworth filed a report with NNSWF following the clash on February 22.
Among a handful of complaints was the explosive allegation a fan entered the field in the first half and allegedly tampered with Conway’s water bottle.
It was allegedly laced with beer and grass before it was placed back behind the goal.

Conway informed Edgeworth coaching staff at half-time his water bottle had been tampered with – and a minor is reportedly behind the alleged incident.
The gloveman was also allegedly verbally abused by an intoxicated supporter from Belmont-Swansea United.
NNSW confirmed they are investigating the series of allegations.
‘Northern NSW Football have received a report of an incident from the round two NPL men’s NNSW first grade match between Belmont Swansea United and Edgeworth Eagles at Blacksmiths Oval which involved spectators and a player’s equipment,’ a NNSWF spokesperson said.
‘The matter is under investigation and no formal sanctions will be confirmed until the investigation is finalised.’
Belmont Swansea president Cameron Tapp said the club was co-operating with NNSW regarding the alleged incident.
‘Nothing has been finalised as yet,’ Tapp told the Newcastle Herald.
‘It is an on-going disciplinary matter. Until it is finalised, there is really nothing to say other than we are working with Northern NSW on the matter.’
