Liverpool have confirmed that they have completed the signing of a prolific striker, but they continue to wait on a deal for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
The Anfield club have announced that they have signed Will Wright from Salford City, with the young forward regarded as one of the country’s leading striking prospects.
Liverpool have been chasing Wright for much of the summer, with the Reds entering talks to sign the 17-year-old in June. By mid-July, they were said to be in ‘advanced discussions’ to sign the player, who was also subject to interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
It is reported that Liverpool will pay £300,000 (€345,000) to sign the striker, which is the second-biggest deal in Salford’s history.
Wright has played four times for Salford’s first team but has yet to start a senior match or even score a goal. He has, however, been a prolific scorer at youth level, netting more than 40 goals this season for his current side.
Isak deal still progressing
While Wright is a signing for the future, Liverpool continue to spend big on Arne Slot’s squad for the 2025/26 season.
The Merseyside outfit have already smashed their transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and they are attempting to do so again to complete a deal for Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak.
Talks on that front have not progressed since the Reds tabled an offer worth €125 million (£110m) that was rejected by their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool are expected to revisit that deal imminently, although Newcastle are not expected to sell Isak for anything under €170m (£150m).
