FootballTransfers understands that Newcastle are planning to make a move for PSG striker Goncalo Ramos.

The Magpies are in the midst of a hugely tumultuous summer transfer window, which could yet see their star striker Alexander Isak leave the club for Liverpool.

RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko has been anointed as the Swede’s successor, but Newcastle have yet to receive a definitive response from the Slovenia international that he would be willing to make the move to St. James’ Park.

An €80 million bid was rejected by RB Leipzig last week, but it is thought that the price won’t be an issue. The bigger problem is getting the green light from the player as Man Utd are also vying for his signature.

The next few days will be crucial. Recent reports have suggested that Newcastle have demanded a response from Sesko within 48 hours, while Eddie Howe is set to hold clear-the-air talks with Isak after returning from Asia.

Newcastle plan Ramos approach

Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Isak and Sesko, Newcastle have put contingency plans in place. We are told that long-standing target Goncalo Ramos is set to be approached by the Magpies.

What is important to mention is that Ramos wouldn’t necessarily be signed as an alternative to Sesko or a replacement for Isak. Budget permitting, Newcastle could bring in the Portugal international alongside Sesko or Yoane Wissa, their other priority target.

Should Howe manage to get Isak’s head straight and convince him to stay for another season, Ramos could also be signed as a replacement for Callum Wilson.

The interest in Ramos dates back to his Benfica days. Newcastle had agreed terms with him prior to his move to PSG, but the French giants (€65m) managed to outbid the Premier League side (€50m).

The 24-year-old is now once again a concrete option for Newcastle.
