Chelsea have once again spent lavishly in the transfer market, but head coach Enzo Maresca remains concerned about the state of his squad going into the new season.
The Stamford Bridge club have invested €278 million on new players, with eight new faces joining the club and RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons also likely to hook up with the team.
Maresca, though, is still concerned about the lack of preparation after leading his side to win the Club World Cup – a competition that only ended in mid-July when the Blues sensationally defeated PSG 3-0.
Complicated summer for Chelsea – Maresca
And this lack of action means that Maresca is concerned.
“Because it is the first time that has happened, we don’t have the answer. It is complicated,” the manager admitted.
“We arrive here, we start three or four days ago, and we start like we didn’t finish. Like a normal week.
“We cannot do pre-season, we don’t have time. We have another game Sunday, then we start official games. It is very complicated.”
Chelsea suffered a major blow in training when Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury that will likely leave the England defender on the sidelines for much of the season. It is a deal that is also likely to see the West London outfit set to go back into the transfer market for at least one more player.
The Blues face AC Milan on Sunday at Stamford Bridge before the real action kicks off in the Premier League when they face Crystal Palace on 17 August.
