Chelsea have decided against signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italy international is expected to leave PSG after being omitted from their matchday squad for the UEFA Super Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City have now stepped up their pursuit of his signature.

We understand that Manchester United are firmly interested in signing the 26-year-old this summer, amid concerns over Andre Onana’s form since his move from Inter Milan, while PSG also expected Chelsea and Man City to join the race for his signature.

However, the Blues have now decided against signing the Italy superstar, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea won’t sign Gianluigi Donnarumma

Chelsea launched an official bid for AC Milan star Mike Maignan during the pre-Club World Cup transfer window, but they have subsequently relaxed their stance about signing a new goalkeeper and are now happy with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen as their two options.

As a result, Romano claims they are not in the race to sign Donnarumma before Transfer Deadline Day.

Instead, they are focused on finalising the arrivals of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons. Personal terms have been agreed with both players, but Man City have reportedly rejoined the race for the latter as they look to hijack Chelsea’s deal.

Meanwhile, the Blues are also eager to sanction a number of player sales this summer, with Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson among the stars who have been placed on the transfer list by the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge.
