Rangers midfielder Lyall Cameron insists a desire to prove himself to new manager Russell Martin is fuelling his good form in the early part of the season.
Cameron was signed on a pre-contract agreement from Dundee in the summer under the old regime at Ibrox prior to Martinâs arrival.
He has now started each of the clubâs last three games and scored his first Rangers goal against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic on Tuesday night.
Cameronâs goal shortly after half-time helped see Rangers through to the Champions League play-off round despite a 2-1 loss on the night, with Club Brugge up next.
The young midfielder proved he had an eye for goal during his time at Dundee and he believes his attitude and determination can shine through at Ibrox.
âI didnât expect to be in the team as early as I have been when I first came in,â said the 22-year-old. âThe manager didnât sign me and I wasnât his player.

Cameron admits he never expected to feature so often, so soon for his new club

Cameron wheels around to begin celebrating as the ball hits the back of the net in Plzen

The Rangers midfielder jumps for joy after being in the right place at the right time in Czechia
âI had to prove to him what I wanted to do and he has backed me. Itâs great, I have really enjoyed working with him.
âI think what he wants to implement will be really good once we get it properly in our games. It will be a really good style of football.
âI think I have a lot more to give, to be honest, and I think the way the manager wants to play will suit my style. I want to get on the ball, run, score goals.
âThe goal on Tuesday night was only a tap-in but I was in the right position as a midfielder, getting in the box and hoping something drops.
âIt is a massive moment for me and I think it came at a good time. In the game as a whole we werenât as good as we wanted to be and we know that.
âThe performance wasnât as good as the manager demands. I think there are still a lot of positives to take, weâre through to the next round.â
Rangers boss Martin was critical of his teamâs performance against the Czechs, accusing them of being careless and sloppy on the ball in the forward areas.
Rangers were also far too wide open at times and conceded numerous clear-cut chances, most of which were squandered by Plzen.
Cameron knows that a huge improvement will be required if Rangers are to stand a chance against a slick Brugge side whom they drew 2-2 with in pre-season.
âWe know the performance wasnât as good as we wanted it to be and thereâs a lot of building to do and progress to be made,â he added.
âI think weâve really bought into the managerâs style and what he wants to do. Once we do implement it properly it will be a really exciting brand of football the fans love.

Cameron is determined to be a success at Rangers and has quickly won over supporters
âWe just need to keep doing what he wants to do and we will get better. He is always demanding that he wants more and he wants better.
âThatâs the type of guy he is and weâve really bought into it. We know the levels he demands and Tuesday night wasnât good enough as a whole performance.
âAt the end of the day, we need to look at the positives. We are through into the last round of the Champions League qualifiers and there is that to look forward to. We know there is a lot of work to be done.
âWe know it wonât be easy because Brugge are a good side who we played in pre-season. We know they are a good team but itâs what you expect when you compete at that level.â
