Liverpool have reached an agreement with Parma for the transfer of Giovanni Leoni, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds have secured the first of what they hope will be two high-profile defensive signings before the window slams shut. Adding a young centre-back has been on the agenda since at least 2023, and the departure of Jarell Quansah finally made it an urgent priority this summer.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have reached a formal agreement with Serie A side Parma to sign 18-year-old wonderkid Giovanni Leoni.

Personal terms with the Italy youth international had already been agreed, and the two clubs have now found common ground on a fee. Romano states that Liverpool will pay in the region of €35 million for the teenager, while Parma will retain a sell-on percentage.

The expert adds that Leoni is expected to immediately become a part of Arne Slot’s senior side and that he will not, as some reports have suggested, be loaned out initially.

Liverpool sign Leoni – Guehi next?

Despite the agreement for Leoni, there is a feeling that Liverpool are not done there when it comes to strengthening their defence. The Reds also remain interested in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

However, the England star is the subject of very conflicting reporting. While Romano states that personal terms have already been agreed, David Ornstein and other sources insist that such an assertion is premature.

Indeed, Sky Sports claims that, as things stand, Guehi is more likely to see out his Crystal Palace contract, which expires next year. It is said that talks have thus far only been exploratory.

There is a gap in valuation between Liverpool and Crystal Palace, and the current suggestion is that the Reds will not match the Eagles’ asking price and instead pursue a free transfer next year.
