Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is a man under pressure following the defeat to Grimsby Town on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Amorim watched the Red Devils eliminated by the League Two outfit after they had come from 2-0 down in normal time to draw 2-2.

Man Utd have also made an unspectacular start in the Premier League, picking up just one point from their opening two matches.

According to transfer insider Indykaila, writing for Caught Offside, Man Utd owners Ineos are preparing to pull the trigger and sack the 40-year-old former Sporting CP boss.

“The question is when not if Ruben Amorim leaves Manchester United in the months to come,” an anonymous “well-placed” source claims.

Indeed, it is even claimed that the two leading candidates to replace Amorim have already been settled upon.

Who will be the next Manchester United manager?

Man Utd are weighing up the possibility of approaching Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola of Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively.

While there are other names on the shortlist, including a long-standing interest in Gareth Southgate, it is believed that the established Premier League duo are Ineos’ favoured options.

One of the factors going against Southgate, for example, is that the club is fearful of a backlash from fans.

Glasner and Iraola, meanwhile, both find their stock high after strong recent displays with clubs outside of the Premier League’s traditional giants.

In particular, Glasner won the FA Cup last season, famously defeating Manchester City in the final.

According to the bookmakers, Michael Carrick, who was recently sacked by Middlesbrough, is the favourite to replace Amorim.
