Liverpool confirm emotional Jurgen Klopp return for the first time since leaving 11 months ago – ahead of final weekend of the season

Liverpool have confirmed that Jurgen Klopp will make an emotional return to the club in May.

The former boss will attend the LFC Foundation’s Annual Gala on May 23 as a guest speaker in his first appearance as an honorary ambassador since leaving.

Tickets are already on sale for the event, which is two days before the final game of the season against Crystal Palace, a clash at Anfield which he could attend.

‘Everyone knows how much I love the work of the LFC Foundation and I can’t wait to join them to celebrate that work and help to raise important funds for them to continue the incredible things they are doing,’ said Klopp.

Matt Parish, chief executive of the LFC Foundation, said: ‘Jurgen was a fantastic advocate for our work during his time at the club and we appreciate his ongoing support and hope as many people as possible can join us.’

The German is now working as Red Bull’s global head of soccer.

According to The Athletic, he has also been invited to the Reds final Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace two days later.

Klopp has not been at Anfield since his emotional farewell after a glorious eight-and-half year reign in charge of the club last May.

The 57-year-old took a break from football before beginning his new role with Red Bull in January.

He is reportedly set to be present in Merseyside at the end of the current campaign when the Reds are expected to win a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown.

Klopp supported the charitable work of the LFC Foundation during his time at Anfield and became an honorary ambassador following his departure last summer.

Liverpool need just 11 more points from their final seven games to clinch the Premier League title. Arne Slot’s men suffered a 3-2 defeat by Fulham on Sunday but they still enjoy a mammoth 11-point lead over second-place Arsenal.

Supporters will get the chance to toast the success of the would-be 2025 champions during an open-top bus parade, planned for May 26.

Klopp’s 2020 winners were denied the privilege due to the global pandemic five years ago.

Slot and Klopp have reportedly regularly exchanged messages over the course of this season, with the Dutchman making it clear that there’s an open invitation for his predecessor to either attend games at Anfield or visit the club’s training base.
