Arsenal are having serious doubts about Matheus Cunha after his recent antics on and off the pitch, according to a report.

The Brazilian has been one of the biggest reasons behind Wolves managing to stave off relegation this season despite a horrendous start to the campaign.

Cunha has been the club’s undisputed star player this term, although his side looked just as good – if not better – without him recently. The 25-year-old was forced to serve a four-game suspension after losing his head in a clash with Bournemouth, but Wolves didn’t really miss him.

It wasn’t the first time Cunha made negative headlines this season, and he quickly made sure that it wouldn’t be the last. Earlier this year, he was criticised by coach Vitor Pereira for his poor body language in a game against Chelsea.

Cunha’s relationship with the fanbase has been fraught with tension, too. Despite praising the supporters and the club for the faith they have shown in him last month, the Brazilian recently had a social media spat with supporters, which again raised questions about his attitude.

Is Cunha ruining his future?

According to Graeme Bailey, Cunha’s antics haven’t gone unnoticed, and he claims that some of his suitors, chief among them Arsenal and Liverpool, see Cunha’s attitude as a major red flag.

“My understanding on him is that his actions this season on and off the pitch, with what happened in that game against Bournemouth, have seen Arsenal and Liverpool in particular raise red flags with what he did,” Bailey told TBR Football.

“If he does what he did in an Arsenal, Liverpool or Man United shirt, he’s going to get a longer ban and you can’t be doing that. When you’re dealing with someone worth over £60 million, do you want someone who has red flags attached? Premier League clubs don’t tend to do that and it could impact on him.”

Despite only signing a new Wolves contract on February 1 – with a £60m (€70m) release clause – Cunha has made no secret of the fact that he is looking to take ‘the next step’ in his career and challenge for trophies.

Arsenal have taken a keen interest in him in the wake of the appointment of Andrea Berta as their sporting director as the Italian previously signed him for Atletico Madrid. Man Utd, too, have been heavily linked with Cunha.

However, he may have talked himself out of a transfer over the past month.
