FA launch investigation into pitch invasion at Turf Moor after Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder hit out at 'scary' post-match scenes following Burnley's promotion-clinching win

The Football Association are investigating a pitch invasion that followed Burnley’s promotion-sealing victory over Sheffield United.

Thousands of fans of the Lancashire club ran onto the field after the final whistle of a 2-1 victory over the Blades that sent Scott Parker’s men back to the Premier League.

While the mood was mostly celebratory, some appeared to taunt and goad opposition players. United star Hamzah Choudhury appeared visibly upset as a fracas unfolded, with the player eventually dragged from the field of play.

And Blades manager Chris Wilder hit out at their hosts following a defeat which ended his own side’s chances of automatic promotion.

The FA have confirmed it is now investigating the matter and will now decide to charge Burnley.

Wilder said: ‘We were told by the referee before that we’d be getting stewards surrounding us, but I think they went on the missing list, completely went on the missing list.

‘It was quite scary out there in the end, where there were people coming in and doing bits and pieces.

‘It’s understandable that their emotions are running high, but I didn’t think we got protected by the football club and the stewards at all, one bit.

‘The referee, when I spoke to him afterwards, he noticed that as well. So I suppose when 20 or 30 lads, 40 or 50 lads are running at you, shouting bits and pieces and doing bits and pieces, just at the end of a game, it’s quite difficult just to get off.’
