Alex Scott Won’t Host Match of the Day

Alex Scott has revealed she won’t be stepping in as the host of Match of the Day after Gary Lineker was pulled off air in a cryptic tweet.

The former Arsenal and England defender, who is a regular pundit on the BBC show, took to Twitter to make the announcement on Wednesday night.

The tweet read: “I won’t be stepping in as the host of MOTD. I’m sure the BBC will make the right decision for the show.”

The tweet came hours after Lineker was pulled off air following a row with the BBC over his comments about the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lineker had been critical of the government’s response to the pandemic, and had called for the government to do more to protect the vulnerable.

The BBC said in a statement that Lineker had been pulled off air “in order to protect the impartiality of the BBC”.

Scott, who is a regular pundit on Match of the Day, had been tipped as a potential replacement for Lineker, but it appears she has ruled herself out of the running.

Scott has been a regular on Match of the Day since 2016, and has become one of the most recognisable faces on the show.

She has also become a prominent figure in the football world, having been appointed as the first female member of the FA Council in 2018.

Scott has also been a vocal advocate for women’s football, and has been a vocal critic of the lack of investment in the women’s game.

It remains to be seen who will replace Lineker as the host of Match of the Day, but it appears that Scott won’t be the one to do it.
