Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak considers his career at the club over after he was exiled from first-team training by Eddie Howe.
The Sweden international was told to train away from the rest of Newcastle’s squad on Wednesday, after handing in a transfer request in July, while he was also excluded from a lunchtime barbecue at the club’s training ground.
TBR Football claim that Isak is happy to have been exiled by Howe as he believes his career at Newcastle is over, and this has been backed up by transfer news expert David Ornstein.
He told The Athletic FC Podcast: “I think Isak and his representatives have made it clear for some time to Newcastle that their plan is to leave and I think the Newcastle chapter is closed from what we’re hearing.
“Is it a case of game over for Isak, he has to stay? Well Newcastle hold his contract until 2028, they have the power to hold on to Isak. But, I don’t think they are stupid. They know the situation they have on their hands.
“I think by the time the window shuts on the 1st September, I think there is a very good chance Isak will have departed, and his preference is to join Liverpool.”
Who will Newcastle sign to replace Alexander Isak?
With Isak set to leave St James’ Park before the end of Transfer Deadline Day, Newcastle are determined to sign a suitable replacement as they look to challenge for Champions League football yet again next year.
However, top target Benjamin Sesko is expected to snub the Magpies’ interest in favour of joining Manchester United.
As a result, they have been forced to identify alternative options, with Nicolas Jackson, Ollie Watkins, Lois Openda, Samu Aghehowa, Rodrigo Muniz and Evanilson all being monitored by Newcastle, as per TBR Football, while Yoane Wissa continues to be linked with a move.
