Liverpool are making progress towards the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, with the Merseyside club having made a record bid for the Sweden international forward.

Fabrizio Romano announced the serious interest of the Reds in Isak earlier this week and has dropped a further update on the future of the deal.

On his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “Liverpool have approached Newcastle and there is club-to-club contact. The two clubs are talking. That’s a big step. They’re aware of Newcastle’s stance, repeated throughout the summer transfer window and before, which is that they don’t want to sell the player. Isak is the face of the project.

“Now they’re presented their idea and proposal to Newcastle. Liverpool have told Newcastle that they’re ready to offer £120m [€138m] for Isak. It’s a record fee.

“I’m told the player has not closed the door to Liverpool. He’s still in talks with Newcastle over a new contract, but he didn’t stop Liverpool. It’s in Newcastle’s hands. The bid is ready, and it all depends on what Newcastle tell Liverpool in the next hours or days – it can’t be too long.”

Isak bid launched by Liverpool

Liverpool have even made an offer to Newcastle for Isak already, according to Nicolo Schira.

“Liverpool are really trying to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle. Submitted a huge bid to NUFC, who want to keep the striker,” the transfer journalist reports via X.

“Liverpool have offered a contract until 2030 with the option for 2031 to the Swedish player, including a very rich salary.”

If the Reds were to complete a deal for Isak, it would be a seismic transfer that would break the club record, which was set earlier this summer when Florian Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth an initial €125m.
