Andre Onana’s struggles at Manchester United hit a new low on Wednesday night as the Cameroonian set an embarassing record after their crushing Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
The Red Devils lost in limp fashion in Bilbao to pile further misery on an already dreadful campaign which will see them miss out of European football for just the second time in the last 35 years.
United sit in a lowly 16th place in the Premier League with just one game remaining and Onana has been widely panned by fans for his erratic performances.
On Wednesday night, the shot-stopper was blasted for failing to keep out Brennan Johnson’s winner.
United fans were left watching in horror as as Pape Matar Sarr’s whipped cross was deflected wildly by Luke Shaw and given a helping hand by Onana.
The mishap condemned Ruben Amorim’s side to defeat and meant that while Onana made history by becoming the first goalkeeper to feature in three European finals for three different teams – embarassingly, he has lost them all.

The Cameroonian has the unwanted record of losing all three European finals he’s played in

The Manchester United goalkeeper was criticised for failing to keep out Johnson’s weak effort
The 29-year-old’s first defeat came against United when he was at Ajax.
Jose Mourinho masterminded a 2-0 win in Stockholm, with a deflected Paul Pogba strike beating Onana, before Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the victory with an acrobatic second-half effort.
His second loss came in 2023 as Manchester City won their first ever Champions League trophy. Rodri’s strike was the difference as Onana and Inter Milan were frustrated in Istanbul.
Onana’s third consecutive European final loss came at the hands of Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs on Wednesday.
Supporters on social media were quick to point the finger solely at the goalkeeper when Spurs pulled ahead in the 42nd minute, with few holding back as they shared their immediate thoughts.
‘Andre Onana is so so poor,’ one fan lamented, with another adding: ‘Andre Onana is the worst goalkeeper in the history of football.
‘That is a howler.’
‘Another day, another Onana mistake,’ a third added.

The 29-year-old also lost the 2023 Champions League final to Guardiola’s Manchester City
‘Onana might be the worst keeper I’ve seen at the top level and I’m not exaggerating,’ one commenter shared.
The goalkeeper was labelled ‘one of the worst keepers’ in Man United’s history by former star Nemanja Matic ahead of their European clash with Lyon in April.
At a press conference ahead of United’s Europa League quarter-final, Matic hit out at Onana after he claimed United were ‘way better’ than their French opposition.
Matic, who spent five years at Old Trafford from 2017-2022, said: ‘If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history, you need to take care what you’re talking about.’
‘If it was [Edwin] Van der Sar, [Peter] Schmeichel or [David] De Gea saying that, then I would question myself. But you need to have cover to say something like that.’
Onana was at fault for both of Lyon’s goals in their 2-2 draw in the first leg, before a remarkable comeback in the return leg at Old Trafford secure their place in the semi-finals.
According to Opta, the Cameroon international has the worst clean-sheet percentage and the second-worst save percentage of any United goalkeeper to have played 900+ minutes since the 2003-04 season.
