Manchester United loanee Antony believes that issues in his personal life affected his performances at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian has been transformed since completing a January move to LaLiga side Real Betis, having failed to come anywhere close to leaving up to the £86million fee the Red Devils paid Ajax for his services in the summer of 2022.
The 25-year-old registered just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games for United before he was shipped out of the club for the rest of the season by Ruben Amorim.
In 2023, Antony was accused by his former partner Gabriela Cavallin of offending, assaulting and threatening her, leading to the Sao Paulo police department conducting an investigation.
A year after the complaint was made, the police found insufficient evidence of any wrongdoing on Antony’s part and concluded their investigation, as reported by Globo.com.
In an interview with ESPN Basil, the winger said his ‘personal life’ affected his displays for the Red Devils which, in his view, were far below the standard that had seen him secure the Manchester and be selected as part of the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup.

In 2023, the DJ and influencer Gabriela Cavallin made the allegations against her former partner
‘I think that, apart from my football life, my personal life got in the way a lot, because of the things I went through, the moments I lived there,’ said Antony. ‘Like it or not, it’s affected me a lot. So, of course, I know the potential I have.
‘It’s not for nothing that I went to a World Cup, it’s not for nothing that I was sold to United for a lot of money, and I know my worth.
‘People look at the moment, but they don’t look at the bigger picture, what happens to bring things about.
‘So, as I said, my feeling at United was that I had good moments, bad moments too, but of course I could have done more, I could have done better.’
Since landing in the south of Spain, Antony has recorded four goals and four assists in 16 matches for Manuel Pellegrini’s outfit who are in the hunt for Champions League qualification and the last four of the Europa Conference League.
