Arsenal suffered a major blow to their Champions League hopes as they were beaten 1-0 by PSG in the first leg of their semi-final clash at the Emirates.
PSG made a confident start and took the lead inside four minutes when Ousmane Dembele fired into the bottom corner with the aid of the post from the edge of the penalty area.
Arsenal began to find their rhythm in the closing stages of the first half, but Gabriel Martinelli spurned their best chance as his shot after fine work from Myles Lewis-Skelly was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Gunners thought they had equalised at the start of the second half when Mikel Merino headed home Declan Rice’s free-kick, but it was ruled out for offside after a three-minute VAR review. Donnarumma was called into action again shortly afterwards, this time denying Leandro Trossard with a stunning one-handed save.
PSG looked more likely to find the second goal of the game in the final minutes, with Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos going close, but they will have a one-goal advantage to take back to Paris.
