Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka stopped by Southampton keeper Forster’s wonder-save… and Odegaard was already celebrating goal

ARSENAL came inches away to opening the scoring against Southampton with Bukayo Saka but were denied by some stunning goalkeeping from Fraser Forster.

Yan Valery gave the ball away with a reckless pass that was picked up by Eddie Nketiah down Saint’s own half and that created a dangerous situation for the hosts after 17 minutes.

Nketiah switched to Gabriel Martinelli down the right and the Brazilian produced a low cross to the far post where Saka was all alone in front of open goal.

But the England international’s shot was shockingly denied by a brilliant Forster who hurled towards his right corner and made the save on what looked like pure instinct.

The Southampton keeper saved Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side from such a certain goal that Martin Odegaard was seen celebrating just moments before the save.

Odegaard appeared to open his arms and clench his fists as he was ready to run towards Saka and celebrate in front of the traveling Arsenal supporters at St Mary’s.

Fans were left stunned by how the North Londoners failed to hit the mark.

One supporter tweeted: “We should have scored that.”

Another wrote: “Good save but he placed it at a perfect height for him. Keep it down and he scores.”

A third posted: “Had to finish there!”

Arsenal needed that goal as Southampton succeeded where they failed by breaking the deadlock on 44 minutes with Jan Bednarek.

Mikel Arteta’s men need a win to boost their hopes of a top-four finish following rivals Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Brighton.
