Arsenal are attempting to make a late attempt to hijack Manchester United’s transfer for Matheus Cunha after reportedly holding new talks with the Wolves forward this week.
United are believed to be close to signing Cunha this summer but the transfer cannot be formally completed until the end of the season when his €75 million release clause becomes active.
Cunha is keen to decide his future in the coming weeks, even before the season’s end, and the 25-year-old has reportedly agreed to United’s sporting project, with discussions over financials continuing to progress.
But Jacobs revealed that Arsenal have made ‘fresh contact’ with Cunha and a new meeting is set to be scheduled between Gunners’ sporting director Andrea Berta and the player’s camp.
United are still frontrunners for Cunha’s signature but the interest from Arsenal could complicate matters, particularly with Mikel Arteta’s side now ready to focus on their transfer business after their Champions League exit this week.

Cunha has repeatedly suggested he is ready to leave Wolves this summer after more than three years at the club, having enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career with 15 league goals.
However, United’s interest is also dependent on them agreeing a deal with Wolves, with the Red Devils keen to restructure Cunha’s release clause to avoid paying all the money up front.
With personal terms still not formally agreed, Arsenal may push for Cunha after a disappointing attacking display in their Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle also remain interested but, with the Magpies still yet to secure Champions League qualification for next season, Cunha may continue to negotiate with Arsenal and Man Utd and secure his move in the coming weeks.
