Arsenal Women’s manager Joe Montemurro has urged his side to be ready for a physical battle when they face Liverpool in the Women’s Super League this weekend.
The Gunners are coming off the back of a dramatic Continental Cup final victory over Manchester City, where they won on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Montemurro believes that the victory will give his side a huge boost of confidence ahead of the clash with the Reds, but he is also aware that they will need to be ready for a physical battle.
“We know that Liverpool are a very physical team and they will be looking to impose themselves on us,” he said.
“We need to be ready for that and make sure that we are up for the challenge. We have to be ready to match their physicality and make sure that we are not intimidated by it.”
Montemurro also believes that his side have the quality to match Liverpool, and he is confident that they can come away with a positive result.
“We have the quality to match them,” he said. “We have some very talented players in our squad and I am confident that we can come away with a positive result.”
The Gunners have been in good form in the WSL this season, and they currently sit in third place in the table, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
Montemurro is hoping that his side can continue their good form and put pressure on the top two.
“We have been in good form this season and we want to keep that going,” he said. “We want to put pressure on the top two and make sure that we are in the mix for the title.”
The clash with Liverpool is sure to be an exciting one, and Montemurro is hoping that his side can come away with a positive result.
“We know that it will be a tough game, but we are confident that we can come away with a positive result,” he said. “We have the quality to match them and we are ready for the challenge.”
