Arsenal could set in motion an epic transfer domino by selling Leandro Trossard.
On Saturday, FootballTransfers exclusively reported that Brentford have opened talks with the Belgium international to gauge his interest in a transfer this summer.
The pursuit of Trossard is informed by concerns over Yoane Wissa as the Congo DR international has been agitating for a move away after talks with Newcastle. Initially, the Bees had been firm in their stance that he was not for sale.
However, on Saturday, Brentford finally gave in and allowed Wissa to leave the club on the condition that a suitable replacement be found beforehand. Trossard would be just such a replacement.
Wissa moving to Newcastle would, in turn, have the effect of making the Magpies more pliant regarding the future of Alexander Isak. Similarly to Brentford, the St. James’ Park club have insisted that their star forward isn’t for sale.
Arsenal to strengthen Liverpool?
Liverpool had a £110 million bid for the Sweden international rejected earlier this week and subsequently briefed journalists that they would not return with an improved offer unless given encouragement by Newcastle that a deal is possible.
However, the consensus is that Newcastle will yield once a replacement for Isak is lined because as the 25-year-old has become completely unsettled. Unless Eddie Howe manages to get the striker’s head straight again – a Herculean task – only a sale will resolve the situation.
So, if all the pieces fall into place, Arsenal could inadvertently strengthen title rivals Liverpool by selling Trossard to Brentford. But that’s not all as former Gunners target Benjamin Sesko is also involved in this domino.
In addition to Wissa, Newcastle want to sign Sesko. On paper, they should be able to afford both, but Man Utd remain firmly in the race for the Slovenia international.
On Saturday evening, news emerged that RB Leipzig had deemed Newcastle’s €80m offer insufficient, giving Man Utd another chance to make their move. Come the end of the window, we could see Trossard at Brentford, Wissa at Newcastle, Isak at Liverpool and Sesko at Man Utd.
