Viktor Gyokeres’ proposed summer move to Arsenal is set to collapse, according to a bombshell report in Portugal.
The Sweden international has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium for several months, however the deal will “collapse imminently” amid Arsenal’s ongoing dispute with Sporting.
That is according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who claim that Arsenal are set to walk away from the deal due to Sporting’s firm negotiating tactics.
This €5m difference has caused immense tension between the two clubs and the deal is reportedly set to collapse as a result, despite the fact that Gyokeres is desperate to join Arsenal.
The Sweden forward has informed Sporting that he will not return to the club for pre-season training, while he has even given up €2m in wages in order to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, A Bola state that Arsenal are “about to give up” on completing the transfer.
Viktor Gyokeres to join Arsenal?
Despite A Bola’s report, FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are still primed to complete the signing of Gyokeres this summer.
We have been informed that Arteta wants the deal to be finalised before his side travel to Hong Kong and Singapore for their summer tour, and Arsenal are confident of reaching a total agreement with Sporting.
Fresh talks are scheduled to take place soon and Gyokeres could be unveiled as a new Arsenal player within the next two weeks.
The Sweden star has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting and he is set to become Arsenal’s joint-second most expensive signing of all time if add-on clauses are met.
