Transfer insider David Ornstein ‘expects’ Arsenal to sign one of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

The Gunners are planning to make a huge splash in the transfer market this summer, with several blockbuster signings lined up as Mikel Arteta attempts to take his team to the next level.

The Spanish tactician has already admitted that he has ‘goosebumps’ thinking about what Arsenal can do with a reinforced team next season. The attack, in particular, is in for a significant overhaul.

The No.9 position has given Arteta headaches for some time now, and the bygone season has shown that the North London club made a mistake by not signing an alternative after Benjamin Sesko turned down a move last summer.

Arteta is determined to avoid a repeat of this. In addition to Sesko, Arsenal are homing in on Viktor Gyokeres, although it is as yet unclear which of the two will ultimately end up at the Emirates.

Ornstein: Arsenal will sign Sesko or Gyokeres

Earlier on Monday, Ben Jacobs corroborated that Sesko and Gyokeres are Arsenal’s two priority targets for the striker position. The former has an RB Leipzig release clause in the region of €80 million, while the latter can leave Sporting CP for €70m this summer.

This has now been echoed by The Athletic’s transfer correspondent David Ornstein, who confirmed during an appearance on NBC that one of these two will head to North London this summer.

“They’ve got a decision to make between Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon, both fantastic options and talents,” Ornstein said. “I do expect one of them to come into the Emirates Stadium this summer.”

FootballTransfers reported last week that Liverpool have also made contact with Gyokeres this summer, although Arsenal remain a strong option for the Swede. Man Utd, meanwhile, no longer pose a credible threat after missing out on Champions League qualification.
