Arsenal are now in ‘concrete talks’ to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to German media.

The Gunners have been keen on the Slovenia international for well over a year. In fact, Sesko was Arsenal’s undisputed top target last summer, and he would have been open to the move.

While the 21-year-old has continued to score goals, it has been a dire season for Leipzig, which culminated in them failing to qualify for Europe for the first time since their promotion to the top flight in 2016.

With no UEFA competitions on the horizon, Sesko is ready to jump ship, and Arsenal remain interested despite the fact that they recently shifted their focus to Sporting CP sharpshooter Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal open Sesko talks

According to Sky Germany, Arsenal are now in ‘concrete talks’ with RB Leipzig over a summer move for Sesko. The report claims that the North London side’s pursuit of the youngster is ‘serious’ and that a deal is ‘on.’

Discussions are currently taking place between sporting director Andrea Berta and his German counterpart Marcel Schafer. Berta is presumably trying to drive down Sesko’s price.

Just like last year, Sesko once again has a variable release clause whose value changes based on his performances. This season, his price has skyrocketed to over €80 million.

This hefty sum – last year Sesko would have cost between €50m and €65m – has seen Arsenal develop reservations in recent times, but it seems that the Gunners are willing to take a punt on the Slovenian after all.
