Arsenal are yet to complete their first signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, although the Gunners are expected to significantly bolster their squad before Deadline Day.

They are without a major trophy in five years and Mikel Arteta is under immense pressure to finally bring silverware back to the Emirates Stadium after three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.

Last summer, Arsenal spent a combined €108.9 million on Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and David Raya, while they sold Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale to fellow Premier League clubs.

This year, Arsenal are yet to officially complete their first transfer, but they are close to announcing new contracts for Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, while a plethora of departures have been confirmed.

Arsenal’s potential incomings and outgoings

Arsenal are expected to sign a new centre forward this summer, after failing to bolster their options in this position last year, and they have once again identified Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres as their two top targets – just as they did in 2024.

However, their pursuit of the latter has stalled as a result of Sporting CP’s asking price and they are now focused on landing Sesko, although this could change if Gyokeres becomes available for a cheaper fee.

Reports that Arsenal have already agreed terms with Sesko appear to be wide of the mark, but FootballTransfers understands that an official bid is expected soon.

They were also hoping to bring Nico Williams to the Emirates Stadium in a bid to improve their options out wide, however he has opted to join Barcelona and a move to Camp Nou is now expected.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is a key target too, with FootballTransfers exclusively revealing that he is set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.

In addition, Arsenal are also hoping to agree a deal for a new back-up goalkeeper and they are keeping tabs on a number of central defenders, including Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to sanction several sales before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off.

Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga are among the players who may depart permanently following loan moves away from the club last summer, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could potentially be sold too.

Thomas Partey is still yet to sign a contract extension and a Bosman exit is therefore on the cards.
