Australia takes on West Indies in the second and final T20I on September 7, Friday. The hosts won the first T20I and are leading the series 1-0. This is an important bilateral series for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The previous match came as a big respite for Australian skipper Aaron Finch. He batted at number four and anchored the innings for Australia taking them to a win. The series also saw David Warner and Mitchell Marsh return to the side, Steve Smith was rested for the first game with Marsh returning.

“I wanted to target the short boundary but got out, nice to get a couple though. I did not like the first one hitting on the head [on the first ball he faced from Joseph]. Really liked batting in the middle order, something different. We probably would swap it around in the next game [on the opening combination]. We gonna keep tinkering with things so that we got all bases covered going into the World Cup” said Finch on his new batting position and the way he approached his innings.

West Indies, on the other hand, had a poor game. None of their batters was able to stand the Australian pace attack. Kyle Mayers after a good start was dismissed for 39. Skipper Nicholas Pooran scored just two. Odean Smith was the second-highest scorer for West Indies with 27 off 17 deliveries.

“The guys came off a plane two nights ago. We have the World Cup Qualifiers as well to play here. Really pleased with how Mayers batted, Cariah on debut and Joseph bowling really well today. Maybe if we had taken the catch in the last over, we could’ve won, but we learn from it, accept it, embrace it and move on” said Pooran.
