Nico Williams is set to join Barcelona, with a deal now ‘inevitable,’ according to Spanish media.
The saga surrounding the Spain international is coming to an end despite a late hiccup. Williams – or, rather, his representatives – wanted assurances from Barcelona that they would be able to register him if a deal were to be completed.
Last season, the Blaugrana had to fret over the future of summer signing Dani Olmo as LaLiga disputed his registration. Due to a clause in his contract, the attacking midfielder could have left the club on a free transfer, but he opted to stay despite the uncertainty surrounding his eligibility.
Barcelona reportedly didn’t take too kindly to Williams’ camp requesting guarantees, but this has seemingly not jeopardised his anticipated move to the Spanish champions.
Barcelona to sign Williams
According to club insider Gerard Romero, Barcelona are fully expected to finally wrap up the deal to sign Williams shortly. The journalist has gone so far as to claim that this move is ‘150 per cent’ done.
“You can say that Nico to Barcelona is 150 per cent done. It’s inevitable. He will play for Barca next season,” Romero claimed on his Twitch channel, echoing reports from elsewhere that have stated that this transfer could be finalised this week.
Williams reportedly wants to join Barcelona before the week is out, and there have been claims that Barcelona will officially trigger his release clause on Friday.
Personal terms with Williams have been agreed for weeks, with the 22-year-old set to sign a contract until 2031 at the newly-renovated Camp Nou.
