Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has heaped praise on the club’s newly appointed coach, Thomas Tuchel, citing his success at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as proof of his top-class coaching ability. Tuchel was appointed to the position after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked from the role this week.
Tuchel has had a successful career in football, with stints at Borussia Dortmund, PSG and most recently, Chelsea, where he won silverware with all three clubs. At PSG, he guided the team to the Champions League final in 2020, a feat that has eluded the French side since.
During his unveiling, Kahn highlighted Tuchel’s ability to navigate the challenges of PSG, which has been marred by frequent conflicts between coaches, players and upper management. The Bayern CEO was impressed with Tuchel’s success in leading the squad to the Champions League final despite the turbulence.
Kahn stated, “You don’t have to discuss his qualities, they are impressive. His career is also a testament to that. Leading a squad like PSG is not easy. He led them to the Champions League final. Also, at Chelsea, he worked very successfully from day one. It’s an impressive CV. There’s always a personal development behind it. That’s why we’re very happy that Thomas Tuchel is now our coach.”
Bayern Munich recently knocked PSG out of the Champions League this season, winning 3-0 on aggregate before Nagelsmann was sacked. With Tuchel now at the helm, the club hopes to go even further in the competition as they prepare to face Manchester City in the quarter-finals. The club is also in contention to win the Bundesliga.
Tuchel’s first game in charge of Bayern Munich will be against his former team, Borussia Dortmund, on April 1 in the league. With his impressive track record, the team and fans alike are looking forward to seeing how Tuchel will lead the club to further success.
