Beckham Critiques Man United’s Disrespectful Post-Season Behavior

David Beckham insisted Man United players are failing to uphold the club’s high standards following incidents in their controversial post-season tour of Asia.

After defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final capped off what was already a historically poor campaign for the club, Ruben Amorim’s side found little reprieve after jetting off to Malaysia last week.

The multi-stop tour was expected to cater to the club’s large fanbase in the region and provide some much-needed revenue after their costly failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

However, poor performances on the pitch and multiple controversial incidents off of it have done little to repair the club’s current standing.

Earlier this week United star Amad Diallo was seen putting his middle finger up to a supporter after the 1-0 defeat against the ASEAN All-Star team in Kuala Lumpur.

The Ivorian later responded to backlash on social media, apologising to those who had been offended by the gesture but insisting that he had solely targeted an individual who had made offensive comments about his mother.

Meanwhile Alejandro Garnacho was filmed appearing to push a supporter as he made his way through the streets of the Malaysian capital.

The incident occurred just days after Mail Sport revealed that Ruben Amorim told Garnacho in no uncertain terms that his career at United is over during a tense team meeting.

Speaking on the current state of his beloved former club after the Champions League final on Saturday, Beckham claimed that standards off the pitch have dropped since his time at Old Trafford.

‘It’s tough times,’ the former United star told CBS Sports.

‘I don’t like seeing some of things that are going on at the club.

‘On the pitch is what counts but in all honesty I’m seeing a lot of things that are not okay in my eyes as a fan and as a lover of Man United.

‘You have to represent the badge. That’s what it is about. I’ve seen a lot of things where players are not acting in the right manner,’

Seated alongside his long-time friend, Hollywood star Tom Cruise, Beckham went on to contrast the behaviour of the current United squad with his own time at the club.

‘We were a part of a team that was so well mannered,’ he continued.

‘We understood what it meant to play for Manchester United. We understood what the badge meant.

‘Wherever we travelled, whether it was in Europe or in Asia, we respected the fans.

‘We respected the fact that they were turning up, paying money and wanting you to sign and take pictures. You respect that.’

Beckham made nearly 400 appearances in all competitions for United after initially emerging as part of the famed Class of 92 FA Youth Cup-winning squad.

He would go on to depart United in 2003 following a public spat with Sir Alex Ferguson enjoying before spells at Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG.
