Bournemouth sign Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell on loan with option for permanent transfer for Prem promotion push

BOURNEMOUTH have continued their incredible deadline day by announcing the arrival of Todd Cantwell on loan from Norwich City.

The Cherries had already signed Nat Phillips, Kieffer Moore and Freddie Woodman on an action-packed day of transfers.

Phillips joins from Liverpool on loan until the end of the season, while Newcastle stopper Woodman is another short-term signing.

Kieffer Moore has joined from Cardiff on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

And now the promotion-chasers have added Cantwell, 23, to their ranks as they aim to break back into the Premier League.

Cantwell has slipped down the pecking order at Carrow Road following the arrival of Dean Smith.

But Bournemouth see him as just the ticket to complete their busy deadline core – signing a goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder and striker.

Canaries star Cantwell was once on the radars of Manchester United and Tottenham.

But amid a difficult year, the attacking midfielder has instead attracted the attention of Newcastle and Olympiacos, before ultimately sealing his move to the south coast.

Cantwell has played just eight times in all competitions this season, failing to score a single goal.

Both Norwich and Cantwell will hope the move down to the Championship will help him rediscover his top form.

And for Bournemouth, boss Scott Parker will hope the midfielder will help their push for automatic promotion.

The Cherries currently sit third in the table, but can move second if they win their game in hand.

Cantwell has played 110 times for Norwich since breaking out of the youth ranks and into the first-team, scoring 14 times – including six goals as Norwich were promoted back into the top-flight last term.

The midfielder has twice won the Championship crown – in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
