Carl Froch, the former four-time world champion boxer, has taken a brutal dig at YouTube star Jake Paul, thanking Tommy Fury for doing boxing purists a ‘massive favour’.
Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is set to face Paul in a professional boxing match on June 5th. The fight has been met with criticism from many in the boxing world, with many believing that Paul is not a legitimate boxer and that the fight is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
Froch, who retired from boxing in 2014, has been one of the most vocal critics of the fight. In a recent interview, he thanked Fury for taking on Paul and doing boxing purists a ‘massive favour’.
“I’m so pleased that Tommy Fury has taken this fight on,” Froch said. “He’s doing boxing purists a massive favour by taking on Jake Paul. It’s a fight that nobody wanted to see, but at least it’s a real boxer taking on a YouTuber.”
Froch went on to say that he believes Fury will win the fight easily, and that it will be a ‘mismatch’.
“Tommy Fury is a real boxer, he’s a professional, he’s trained for this fight,” Froch said. “Jake Paul is a YouTuber, he’s not a boxer. It’s going to be a mismatch. Tommy Fury will win this fight easily.”
Froch’s comments come as no surprise, as he has been a vocal critic of the fight since it was announced. He has previously said that he believes the fight is a ‘joke’ and that it is ‘disrespectful’ to the sport of boxing.
It remains to be seen if Fury will be able to live up to Froch’s expectations and defeat Paul in the ring. However, one thing is for sure: Froch’s comments have certainly added fuel to the fire ahead of the fight.
