CELTIC fans mocked the death of The Queen with two disgraceful banners at their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Hoops are facing the Ukranian giants tonight in Polish capital Warsaw with the hosts unable to use their home ground for the fixture due to the Russian invasion.

Celtic fans unveil “f*** the crown” banner

It was announced before the game that there would be no minute’s silence or national anthem played before kick-off.

Celtic players took to the field wearing black armbands in tribute to The Queen, who sadly passed away last Thursday.

Just hours earlier the Queen’s coffin had been conveyed amid great ceremony to Westminster Hall in London, where it will lay in state until next Monday’s funeral.

But a section of the Celtic support is well known for it’s anti-monarchy stance and they seized the opportunity in front of a massive TV audience to make their feelings known with two shocking displays.

One simply read: “f*** the crown.”

A second banner read: “Sorry for your loss Michael Fagan.”

That was a swipe referring to Fagan, who broke into Buckingham Palace twice in 1982.

The supporters were spotted on TV as the BT cameras focused in on the travelling Hoops backing.

It sparked an apology from the commentators who were disappointed with the reception shown by the fans in their first match since The Queen’s passing.

BT Sport commentator Rob MacLean told viewers: “Apologies if anyone has taken offence at anything seen in the early minutes.”

Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Rangers will produce a touching tribute before their clash with Napoli at Ibrox tonight.

They were urged by radio pundit Simon Jordan to defy Uefa’s ban on playing the national anthem before the match tonight.

And the club have announced that they will honour The Queen before the match and insist there will be a display and rendition of the national anthem.

Their tweet read: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be honoured this evening at Ibrox with a minute’s silence, a display created by the Union Bears, and a rendition of the Nation Anthem.

“If you are attending tonight’s match, we encourage all supporters to be in their seat for 19:50.”
