Liam Rosenior’s good work at Strasbourg has not gone unnoticed, with the BlueCo coach in the frame for the Southampton job, according to a report.

The Strasbourg boss is regarded as one of the most promising up-and-coming English coaches in European football. After a very harsh and controversial sacking by Hull City, the BlueCo-owned side took a punt on him and their gamble was rewarded.

The Alsatians find themselves in a surprising but thoroughly deserved fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings after a 1-0 victory over Reims at the weekend.

In fact, Strasbourg are just three points off Marseille in second, illustrating not only how tight Ligue 1’s battle for the Champions League is but also how far ahead free-spending PSG are of the other teams in the division. The Parisians were officially crowned champions after a 1-0 win over Angers on Saturday.

Which football managers have been sacked this season?

Rosenior eyed by Southampton

According to Ben Jacobs, Rosenior’s good work hasn’t gone unnoticed outside of France. The journalist reports that the 40-year-old is one of the top candidates for the now-vacant coaching job at Southampton.

Ivan Juric left his role earlier on Monday due to a relegation release clause after the Saints’ demotion was confirmed with a 3-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday. It was the earliest relegation in Premier League history.

However, Rosenior is not the only name under consideration and could prove tough to get for Southampton. Jacobs reports that BlueCo want to keep him in their orbit, and a move to the Championship may also not appeal to him considering that Strasbourg have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Other options for the Saints job are highly-rated Danny Rohl at cash-strapped Sheffield Wednesday – who is also an outside candidate for RB Leipzig – as well as out-of-work David Wagner and Frank Lampard, who has done an exceptional job since joining Coventry in November.
