Chelsea have reportedly decided against lodging a bid for RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons as the Blues have been linked with a move for Alejandro Garnacho.
Simons, 22, is claimed to be pushing for an exit from the Bundesliga club and has reached an agreement over personal terms with Enzo Maresca’s side.
However, according to BILD, a bid is yet to arrive for the Dutch international from Stamford Bridge – meaning Chelsea may step up their pursuit of Garnacho instead.
Simons arrived from Champions League winners PSG for £43.3million in the January transfer window, resulting in Leipzig placing a valuation on him of at least £60m.
Losing the midfielder would present another significant blow to Leipzig with their star striker Benjamin Sesko moving closer to joining Garnacho’s current employers in Manchester United.
Sesko, 22, arrived in Manchester on Thursday night for his medical with the Red Devils ahead of a £74m transfer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Garnacho after asking United for their valuation of the 21-year-old winger.
The Red Devils are believed to want £50million for the Argentinian – significantly less than the £70m that United initially valued the player at, after finding himself marginalised by manager Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho has been informed that he has no future at United and is keen on the switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea’s hierarchy have no concerns over his character after doing their homework.
In total Garnacho has played 144 games for United and has scored 26 goals, while he has provided 22 assists.
He won the FA Cup with United in the 2023-24 campaign and the EFL Cup in the previous season.

The striker has reportedly agreed to waive part of his salary to complete the move to Old Trafford, despite being offered more money from Newcastle
The Blues have already brought in a left winger this summer in Jamie Gittens for £48.5m from Borussia Dortmund, as well as a right winger in Estevao Willian, the Brazilian wonderkid from Palmeiras.
They have also continued to chase Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig amid an attacking revamp ahead of their return to the Champions League this season.
