The news that Chelsea have missed out on Champions League football for next season has been met with disappointment by the club’s fans, but it appears that it won’t stop them from signing one of their top targets.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Blues are keen on signing £50 million-rated star Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for the German side this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 15 assists in the Bundesliga.
And now, Sancho has admitted that he is ‘flattered’ by the interest from Chelsea, despite the fact that they won’t be playing in the Champions League next season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sancho said: “It’s a great feeling to have clubs like Chelsea interested in me. It’s a great feeling and I’m very happy and I’m very flattered.”
Sancho’s comments will come as a boost to Chelsea, who have been linked with the England international for some time. The Blues have been looking to add more attacking options to their squad, and Sancho would certainly fit the bill.
The youngster has already proven himself to be one of the best young players in Europe, and his potential is clear for all to see. He has the ability to create chances for his teammates, as well as scoring goals himself, and he would be a great addition to the Chelsea squad.
However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be able to convince Dortmund to part with their star player. The German side are unlikely to let him go on the cheap, and it could take a huge offer to prise him away from the Westfalenstadion.
Nevertheless, Sancho’s comments will give Chelsea fans hope that they can still sign the player, despite missing out on Champions League football. The Blues may have to dig deep into their pockets to get their man, but it could be a signing that pays off in the long run.
