Chelsea have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jamie Gittens.
The Blues have finally managed to secure the arrival of their priority target for the left wing. After lengthy negotiations, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for Gittens.
According to Fabrice Hawkins and confirmed by various other sources, a deal is now in place for Gittens to complete his move to Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano reports that the 20-year-old’s medical will already take place on Saturday night.
Dortmund and Chelsea are both currently in the US for the Club World Cup, and talks have continued after the Stamford Bridge outfit had two bids rejected in the initial summer window that closed on 10 June.
Despite the fresh agreement, Gittens will not be able to suit up for Chelsea for the rest of the competition. Although clubs are allowed to register new players for the knockout stages, a player becomes ineligible if he has played for another team at the Club World Cup, which Gittens has.
Chelsea agree Gittens deal
A seven-year contract was already agreed with the England youth international at the start of the month, and Gittens had been pushing hard for Dortmund to agree a deal with Chelsea as he is desperate for the move.
Gittens already made it clear before the season ended that he was looking to leave Dortmund this summer. The youngster enjoyed a good start to the campaign but fell out of favour under new boss Niko Kovac and struggled for regular minutes.
At the time of writing, it is still unclear how much Chelsea will ultimately have to pay for Gittens. Previously, it was claimed that Dortmund were unwilling to budge from their €65 million valuation for the winger.
Chelsea were not prepared to pay that much for him in the first summer window. It remains to be seen if Dortmund lowered their demands or if the Blues decided to cough up the money at last.
