Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko after receiving a worrying update on Liam Delap, according to a report.

Earlier on Monday, Ben Jacobs broke the news that Delap is leaning towards a move to Manchester United if the Red Devils manage to secure Champions League football by winning the Europa League.

Man Utd have made it clear to the 22-year-old that he is their absolute top priority for the No.9 position, and the Old Trafford outfit are confident that they can strike early deals for him and Matheus Cunha even without first having to make sales.

With Delap seemingly slipping away, and the prospect of a move for Victor Osimhen completely contingent on the player lowering his financial demands, Chelsea are getting serious about an alternative target.

Chelsea accelerate Sesko pursuit

According to TEAMtalk, the Blues have made fresh contact with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a bid to secure his signing should they indeed miss out on Delap and Osimhen.

Chelsea were already in for the Slovenia international last summer, but Sesko was favouring a move to Arsenal before ultimately deciding to stay in Germany for another year.

A lot has changed since last summer, and the Gunners are now pursuing a move for Viktor Gyokeres, with Sesko only their contingency should they fail to land the Swede.

This has seemingly blown the race for the 21-year-old wide open, and Chelsea are keen to take advantage. Sesko, however, will be significantly more expensive than Delap.

The striker has a variable release clause that has now risen to over €80m. The report states that Leipzig will listen to €70m offers, while the German press has claimed that it could take as much as €90m to sign him this summer.
